When seeking advice about your health, it is best to seek out someone with the most knowledge, education and experience to help you make the best decisions. When it comes to hearing loss, it should be no different. It’s a wiser choice to go see an Audiologist rather than big box stores, such as Sam’s and Costco. There are many differences between the two.
Here are some of them:
- Audiologists are the highest-trained individuals in the diagnosis, testing, evaluation, and rehabilitation of non-medical hearing loss. They provide individualized service bases on results of comprehensive evaluations.
- Audiologists must have at least a Master’s or Doctorate degree.
- Audiologists are self-employed in private practice, work for hospitals, are part of larger ENT groups, or work in schools. The majority of Audiologists work with multi-line manufacturers, while big box stores and are limited to what types, brands and models of hearing aids they can offer.
- Audiologists typically use the most advanced equipment to ensure the quality of their testing and diagnostics. We work closely with primary care physicians and specialists such as Otolaryngologists and Neurologists. Many big box stores and hearing aid dispensaries aren’t required to have medical equipment at all and sometimes don’t even have a soundproof booth in which to perform testing. Therefore, they’re results may not be as reliable as those from an audiologist.
